FEATURED ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. Office Hours

The office will close at 10:45a.m. Friday, September 1st. The office will be closed Monday, September 4th in honor of Labor Day.

2. Hurricane Harvey Relief

This Sunday, September 3rd we will be conducting a clothing drive and taking a special collection that will be sent to Houston in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The goal is to fill the back of Pastor Derek's pick-up with cloths and we will be passing mud boots to take the special offering in both services. If you need or want to write a check for this please note SPECIAL GIFT in the memo. If you would like to give online we have added a SPECIAL GIFTS section. 3. Sign-Up Genius Coming Soon

We will soon be asking all of parents, along with our children's ministry volunteers to help cover our second hour child care. We will be asking everyone to pick one (1) Sunday a quarter that they can serve in our Nursery, Tots & Tikes area care for infant through preschool age children during the second service. We will be using an online tool called Sign-up Genius for this. You can sign up and it will send you reminders as well. Be watching your email for an invitation.

4. Congregational Discussions

Starting with each Thursday during the month of September from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. This first set of discussions will focus on the topic of whether or not it is appropriate to display the American Flag in the Sanctuary. A brief survey will be taken at both services this Sunday to determine which of three neutral locations the flag should be displayed at while these discussions take place.

Coming up This Weekend:

We'll have a message that focuses on communion and we will end the service by coming to the Lord's table. For the message we will focus on Luke 22:14-20

Wednesday Night Supper - If you missed the business meeting we will no longer be serving Wednesday Night Supper. We want to thank Becky Burns and her team for the amazing meals they have prepared for us to share.

Prayer List Reminder - If you would like a list with full names they are available by request from the Welcome Center and if they run out Leann will be happy to print one for you.

AWANA - Registration forms for the 2017-18 season are now available at the Welcome Center. Space will limited depending on how many volunteers we have, so get your registration forms in.

We'll be kicking off the new AWANA season on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:00 p.m.

2017 ABCCR Annual Gathering - October 12-14. Early Registration (Postmarked by September 16) $35 plus childcare, meals & accommodations After September 16 $45 plus childcare, meals & accommodations. AWANA Clubs Volunteers Training - Wednesday, September 6th there will be a training class for all AWANA volunteers. The class will run from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Our goal is to have 1 adult volunteer for every 5 children. The more volunteers we have the more children we'll be able to accommodate. Old Settlers Tear Down - We need ten (10) people to help tear down the stage used at Old Settlers on Saturday, September 9 from 9:30 p.m. to about 1:30 a.m. Grubby clothe and gloves are recommended. For more information contact JD Dailey at 913-636-7666.

This Sunday, August 27th starting at noon there will be a parent orientation meeting hosted by Children's Ministry to explain the most recent and upcoming changes to the ministry. This orientation will last about an hour - 30 minutes of presentation with Q & A to follow. Please make time to attend this important meeting.

3. Congregational Business Meeting

We will hold our mid-year congregational business meeting on Wednesday, August 30th at 6:00 p.m. Join us to find out how the first half of the year has gone and to learn what the rest of the year has in store for FBC.

1. Volunteer Training

This Sunday - August 13th we will host a volunteer training class. Everyone currently volunteering in the church and everyone interested in being more connected should plan on attending this training. The class will begin following the second service and lunch will be served. Questions or just need more information please contact Pastor Rachael.

2. Office Hours

The office may close as early as 12:30 p.m. Friday, August 11th depending on how late the Diaconate meeting runs.

3. Promotion Sunday

This Sunday - August 13th parents are asked to join their children at 9:30 a.m. in the Children's Chapel (located on the lower level) to celebrate our kids as they move up to their new grades.

1. Database Update

Database update sheets will be in the bulletin again this Sunday. Please be sure to fill one out - especially if you have children that will be participating in our Children's programs and get it back to Leann so she can update the database and set up classes.

2. Night of Worship

Join us this Saturday (August 5) for an evening of fellowship and music as we celebrate the completion of our Sanctuary update and a lot of the room revolution. Festivities kick off at 6:00 p.m. and music starts at 7:00 p.m. If you are able consider bringing some cookies for the fellowship time, you can drop them off at the church on Friday, August 4th.

3. Volunteer Training

Be In The Know - July 27, 2017

FEATURED ANNOUNCEMENTS

1. Room Revolution

This project continues, we've passed out database update sheets be sure to fill one out and get it back to Leann so she can update the database (check bulletin for update form) The children's check area is coming together, we tested the new software and will be setting up activities so we can assign kids to their groups. The toddler space (the old workroom) is almost finished, just some shelves to be built, and a bit more painting. Thanks to some amazing volunteers we'll be getting a lot of painting done in the children and youth spaces and adjacent hallways. New signage is starting to be installed. Our goal is still to have the majority of these changes made by the end of July, with finishing touches be completed by the August 5th Night of Worship.

2. What to be more involved?

This Sunday, July 30 will be the Next Step Connect meeting. Following the first service those interested in learning about area inside the church where they can serve will meet in the staff office - located on the right at the end of the hall, past the main restrooms that are under construction. Following the second service those interested in serving opportunities will be in Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. August 13th we will have an info meeting and a volunteer training class. Volunteers are needed for all sorts of things in all ministry areas from children's to youth to Wednesday evening kitchen help. Come to this Sunday's meeting learn more.

3. Building Improvement

New drywall is going up in the main bathrooms and work to remove the old floors we start soon. The new platform is almost completed, carpet is being laid, trim is being put up. The new speakers for the sound system have been installed. The sound booth has been raised and expanded. As of this writing we are on schedule for the Night of Worship.

4. Volunteer Training

Each week a member of the group picks a passage of Scripture as the focus, shares a devotion or just why that passage spoke to them. Then we talk about life and get creative in our Bibles. Project 20/25 2017 - THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! This year we have sent 22/$25 gift cards to the school district to help homeless gets get what they need to start school right.

1. Room Revolution

Next week we'll be updating the database (check bulletin for update form) and getting the children's check in software going. The toddler space (the old workroom) is coming along. Project 20/25 2017 - This Sunday is the last day to turn in gift cards for this important ministry. So far we've gotten 15 - so just 5 more to go! Let's help homeless kids get what they need to start school right. We are collecting gift cards from Walmart, Target and Kohl's. Our goal is 20 -$25 gift cards. Gift cards can be dropped off at the office - deadline is July 23rd.

Pastor Derek will lead a study called Building Our Identity, this is a mixed group.

Jeramie Albin will lead a study called Stepping Up for men

Heather Ricketts will lead a study called Committed for women.
All three will meet at the church Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
